When Brent Gibadlo first started working out of the Summerville area about 10 years ago, his dine-out options near what is now the emerging Nexton development were limited. “I remember when Subway was the only place,” said Gibadlo, vice president and general manager of Nexton. Today, he has a much wider selection to choose from, and it’s mainly because of what’s happening at the 5,000-acre development as big as the Charleston peninsula and other forces around it. http://bit.ly/2p6JMvi https://www.postandcourier.com/business/real_estate/nexton-big-as-a-small-city-is-rapidly-developing-as/article_32bf69da-dd88-11e9-a65d-1b1c30cdf418.html

It’s a busy time for those in the hotel industry, with at least three dozen projects either under construction or approved in the Charleston region. Daniel Blumenstock, a manager and industry consultant, has had a bit of the action, and he’s feeling the pressure from outsiders wanting a piece of the pie. As director of operations for Lowcountry Hotels, he manages the Ansonborough Inn on the peninsula and a Hilton Doubletree, Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn Express near the airport in North Charleston. He also plans future developments for Fennell Holdings, the parent company, including the upcoming Staybridge Suites…
After 10 years as a Holiday Inn, a hotel near the Tanger Outlets shopping center in North Charleston has been converted into a DoubleTree by Hilton. The change last week comes after the 142-room lodging near the Charleston Area Convention Center recently completed a $4 million renovation, according to a written statement. Dan Blumenstock, director of hotels at Lowcountry Hotels, owner of the newly flagged DoubleTree property, said the company thought the Hilton brand would be complementary. http://www.postandcourier.com/business/north-charleston-holiday-inn-converted-into-doubletree-by-hilton/article_6586e7bb-be69-5405-8cf0-184007c2bac9.html

The company followed, however, a previous business, Fennell Container Company, founded in 1973 and sold to Republic Services in 1995. Carolina Waste built on lessons learned there — the Fennells exceeded Fennell Container’s revenue in half the time, and today their $25 million book of business along coastal S.C. routes employs 125 people, including around 70 drivers. Between waste transport, processing and recycling, and landfill services, the company handles more than 800 tons…
